INFORMATION MAP

The production of a tourist information leaflet/map of the notable places etc around the village.

Many places like Spittal have these leaflets that help to promote the place they depict, which could increase footfall in the village and hence business opportunities.

SPITTAL POINT

To keep a watching brief on the proposals to develop Spittal Point.

Although not a physical project SIT are keen to have some influence on the eventual proposals.  SIT would like to see the area being developed as a whole and not piecemeal, be of multiuse and to have some element of public use.

YOUTH PROJECT

To provide facilities in Spittal for local young people and those that frequent many areas within the village.

A future project.

PUBLIC ART

To provide objects of artwork in various places throughout the village.

Areas within the village lend themselves to positioning of pieces of art that can be enjoyed b y all.

SIT have not been able to progress with this project due to time constraints.  This has caused severe embarrassment as the work produced by the school was exceptional.

DOG FOULING

Project to reduce the amount of dog fouling on the beach, Prom and surrounding areas.

This issue came out as the top concern in a community questionnaire under taken by SIT.  SIT’s role is to ensure that this subject remains high on the list of NCC.

LAMP POST LIGHTING POINTS

Increase number of lighting boxes on lamp posts for Christmas lights.

Project will progress when volunteer time allows.

CHRISTMAS STREET LIGHTS

Upgrade and extend current numbers of Christmas street lights.

Project will progress when volunteer time allows.

PROM FLAGS

Provide flags and supports on lighting posts on Prom.

Project will progress when volunteer time allows.

ROAD TRAIN

To encourage the provision of a tourist train to run between Berwick, through Tweedmouth, to Spittal.

Not considered to be a viable project based on the Alnwick experience.  Being looked into by Berwick Development Trust.

COMMMUNITY FILM NIGHTS

Provide family films locally at an affordable price during the winter months.

Would use BURC Church Hall as the venue, a lot of support for the idea.  Project will progress when volunteer time allows.

SPITTAL FOOD STORE

To form a co-operative to take over running of shop should current owners decide to sell up.

A questionnaire was sent to every household in lower Spittal regarding the future of the shop.  The overwhelming response was that the shop was a valuable asset to the village.  There may come a time in the very near future when the current owners will think again about selling up.

COMMUNITY LIBRARY

Set up and run a small library.

Possibly in St Paul’s Church.

DISCO’S FOR YOUNGSTERS

Hold disco’s for youngsters up to say 14 years old.

Could hold them in St Paul’s Church hall.

MOUTH OF TWEED FOOD HERITAGE ECO-MUSEUM

Project to create an Eco-museum in Berwick.

Assistance only in bringing this project forward.

J & W LIFEBOAT & FERRY

Restoration of old lifeboat, could possibly be used as ferry to run between Carr Rock and Berwick.
