Active Projects

Sandstell Fishing Shiel – Spittal

We aim to restore the building and turn it into a heritage museum depicting both the local salmon and herring fishing industries.

War Memorial

We aim to provide a memorial to Alan Archer (AA), a founding member of SIT, who died of cancer in 2009.

Gardening Club

To create a small force of volunteers that can assist NCC to maintain the main planted areas in the village, especially Seafield Park adjacent to the Bowling Club.

DESCRIPTION

COMMENTS

ST PAUL'S CHURCH (BURC)

Ensure that the Church building comes back into community use.

The building is frequently used by many organisations, including SIT, and has potential for becoming a valuable community asset.

NEWSLETTER

The production of a community newsletter that is free to every household.

Although our newsletter THE POINT has been produced bi-monthly since July 2004, it is a cost burden to SIT and it at times could do with being published every month.

WEB SITE

Community run website

SIT currently have had a website for the past three years but it needs revitalising. It was originally set up by a company who volunteered their time but we will now need to pay for the upgrading work.

DOG FOULING

Project to reduce the amount of dog fouling on the beach, Prom and surrounding areas.

This issue came out as the top concern in a community questionnaire under taken by SIT. SIT's role is to ensure that this subject remains high on the list of NCC.

SEASIDE FESTIVAL

Annual event to celebrate the coast.

Although an event, SIT treats this as a project as it is a large undertaking and confidence in organising and holding this event is growing. Aim is to attract visitors to Berwick and surrounding area to aid the local economy.

COMMMUNITY FILM NIGHTS

Provide family films locally at an affordable price during the winter months.

Would use BURC Church Hall as the venue, a lot of support for the idea. Project will progress when volunteer time allows.
